I am your general contractor Arranging things, actions
and peoples in space, I see what needs to be done. I am the general
contractor. So many people, so many details. All of them an elaborate dance in
my mind. I play with materials, contracts, time schedules, subcontractors and
blueprints.
My goal; to get the project done, despite obstacles, on budget
and within reasonable time frames. I start with a blueprint and bring into
being the finished product of a home. I assign tasks, and work out who does
what, when. Not the right paint, changes in plans, a worker making a mistake,
so many obstacles. It is through my vision and intention that things get done.
I make peace and give orders. I negotiate with the homeowner and sell my
services and those of my subcontractors. Sometimes I feel like a military
commander, sometimes I feel like a statesman. I serve the project. I unite the
whole and bring it into harmony and balance. I am your general contractor,
dreaming your dream into the here and now. On a bad day, I run behind space
and time and actions trying desperately to catch up. In the zone, I am outside
of time, guiding; my intent flowing into the work and workers, the project and
maybe even the weather. At night, I dream the solutions to the insolvable
problems of tomorrow. Often I work behind the scenes, directing and
researching. I need to understand all the trades and be able to troubleshoot
the contractors under me. This is the world of the general contractor, with
its ups and downs. Respect me, for I am the one responsible for seeing that
things get done and if I am good at my job, that they get done right, on time
and on budget. Quite a feat don't you think? In the end, we have created what
was envisioned.

Wood floors add warmth, beauty
Wood is among the most beautiful
types of material available for residential floors. Besides being visually
spectacular, it is easy to live with because it is soft underfoot and warmer
than tile.Traditionally, wood floors have been made of solid wood, which can
last for decades by being refinished (sanded and stained) over the years.
Longevity and beauty are its selling points, Traditional wood floors are
installed in their natural state and then sanded and stained in place. This
allows for custom staining, but it's a messy process. With advances in
flooring technology, pre-finished floor boards are now available, which cut
down on the mess and have a tougher factory-applied finish. But with no final
sanding, this floor will not be as perfectly flat as one that has been sanded
in place.
